The Idea:
It all started with my cat, Little Cat. She was just lounging on my chest, purring contentedly and as I petted her my mind began to wander, I found myself daydreaming about a world far different from our own—a world shattered by an earth-shaking apocalypse brought on by an alien invasion.
In this vision, humanity had been wiped out in an instant, turned to dust by the alien death ray. But as the dust of mankind settled, something extraordinary began to happen. The remnants of our existence, infused with the energy of the death ray, became a powerful mutagen that spread across the planet. The cats, our feline companions who had survived in the shadows, began to change. Little Cat, along with the others, transformed into beings with a human-like form, a form that was similar to their humans and their personalities while retaining their feline grace, agility, and sharp instincts.
I imagined Little Cat standing in the ruins of our world, her eyes glowing with a newfound intelligence. She would survive, of course she would, but she wouldn’t be alone. As the dust settled and the first days of the new era dawned, Little Cat would seek out others like her, those who had undergone the same transformation. She would find them scattered across the desolate cities, frightened, confused, but alive.
It wasn’t long before Little Cat realized that survival was not enough. The world needed more than just survivors; it needed protectors. And so, with a resolve as fierce as her blue eyes, she began to organize the remaining felines. She called them to her, gathering the strongest, the smartest, and the bravest. Together, they formed a militia, a force to be reckoned with in this new, harsh reality. They called themselves “The Meowlitia.”
The Meowlitia’s mission was clear: to protect the weak, to guard the remnants of life on Earth, and to fight back against the alien invaders who had destroyed so much. Under Little Cat’s leadership, they trained in the art of war, honing their skills in combat, strategy, and survival. They moved like shadows through the broken cities, their human-like forms allowing them to wield weapons and build fortifications, while their feline instincts made them unmatched hunters and fighters.
But it wasn’t all battle and bloodshed. In the quiet moments between raids and skirmishes, The Meowlitia found solace in a pastime they had inherited from the humans, skateboarding. The ruins of the world’s greatest cities became their playgrounds. They skated the cracked streets of what was once New York, glided down the rails of fallen skyscrapers in Tokyo, and carved through the remnants of the great plazas of Paris.
Little Cat, with her natural agility and balance, became a legend among the skaters of The Meowlitia. When she wasn’t leading her troops into battle, she was pulling off impossible tricks on the crumbling remains of human civilization, reminding her comrades that even in the face of destruction, there was room for joy, for freedom, and for the simple pleasure of a perfect ride.
As I lay there, Little Cat still purring away, the vision began to fade. But the image of her, a fierce leader, a protector of the weak, and a skater extraordinaire stayed with me. And I knew, in some strange way, that if the world ever did end in fire and dust, Little Cat and her Meowlitia would be there, fighting for the future of the world, one battle and one skate spot at a time.
